How to Winterize Your Trailer
Winterizing your trailer is an essential maintenance task that is surprisingly easy! To learn how to prep your trailer for the upcoming season, simply take a look at our short guide below. If you’re in the market to buy a new trailer, you can visit any of our convenient locations in Windsor and Aylesford, Nova Scotia, as well as Moncton, New Brunswick.
Equipment
To start, we advise giving your equipment a little extra care before those cold winter months arrive! Start by lubing your hitch and any of your trailer’s moving parts. If there is any rust on your trailer, apply a rust remover and allow it to sit according to the bottle’s instructions. Finally, take a moment to inspect your tires for any foreign objects or the sound of leaking air. If everything checks out, simply top off the air till your tire is full.
Upkeep
Once your trailer's various pieces have been tended to, we advise grabbing a mild soap and scrub brush and getting to work on the body. Give the interior and exterior of the trailer a good scrub, and feel free to use a hose to wash away any stubborn grime. Just be careful to avoid any wood boards, as they’re susceptible to mildew.
Storage
Even if you’re not storing your trailer for the season, we strongly suggest investing in a durable water-proof tarp to protect it from ice and snow. If you are storing your trailer, the best place to do so is in a garage or shed where it’s completely protected from the elements. We still advise covering it with a tarp to keep it from accumulating dust or allowing pests to nest inside.
